Myrrh is an aromatic gum-resin extracted from a tree belonging to the genus Commiphora myrrha. There are numerous species of Commiphora in various parts of the Red Sea and East Africa (Senegal and Madagascar).
The Egyptians already used it for embalming, cosmetics, and perfumes.
The essential oil has a warm and spicy scent and is obtained by steam distillation of the resin.
The properties of myrrh are numerous: its use helps counteract water retention, has antifungal and healing actions, and in aromatherapy, its scent is used to convey strength and optimism.
